CONTRA-TIEMPO is dedicated to providing an arts education for the community of Los Angeles — By bridging the gap between artivism and education, it is our mission to introduce the new generation of students, activist, artists, and leaders the power of movement based liberation.

CONTRA-TIEMPO is committed to transforming the world through dance. One of the most effective and powerful ways we do this is through our dynamic work with youth. We have partnered with over 40 schools, colleges, and universities, and we continue to share our dance-as-social-action pedagogy work for thousands of young people across the nation each year. We are dedicated to the growth and development of more self reflective and engaged young artists.

Though we tailor our performance and residency work for each group we work with, we primarily use Salsa to express the complexity of resistance and struggle for Latinos and communities of color in the U.S. Part of our mission is creating dialogue and greater understanding across populations, in particular around issues of resistance and power. 

We are proud to have developed long-standing partnerships with East Los Angeles Performing Arts Academy, Foshay Learning Center, UCLA Lab School, the Cal State dance program, Loyola Marymount University, LA Parks and Recreation and LACAC as a part of their Youth Development Program Through the Parks.

Engagement Offerings we provide include: 

• CHOREOGRAPHIC LAB: BUILDING THE MOVEMENT THROUGH MOVEMENT 

  • (2 hours; 30-40 participants) 

• SABOR SESSION: RADICAL JOY SESSION 

  • (1 hour -1 hour & 15 min; 30 - 100 participants)

• COMMUNITY “GET DOWN” 

  • (1 hour: up to 100 participants)
